GoHighLevel Review: Built for Agencies, Not Everyone

GoHighLevel (often called HighLevel or GHL) is an all-in-one CRM and marketing platform built mainly for marketing agencies. Plans cost $97, $297 or $497 a month, with unlimited contacts and users. Here is what that buys, and when a simpler tool makes more sense.

Our verdict

The strongest option on this list for agencies that manage many client accounts, especially with rebilling and white-label resale. For a single creator or small business it is more tool, and more cost, than most need.

Best for: Marketing agencies and consultants managing several client businesses.

Pros

  • Unlimited contacts and users on every plan
  • Unlimited sub-accounts from $297/month
  • Rebill phone and email to clients; resell with markup on Founder
  • Replaces several separate tools (CRM, funnels, email, SMS, calendars)
  • 14-day free trial

Cons

  • $97/month entry price
  • Phone, SMS and email usage billed on top
  • Large feature set takes time to learn
  • Starter allows only 3 sub-accounts

What is GoHighLevel?

GoHighLevel is a platform that bundles a CRM, sales pipelines, funnels and websites, email and SMS marketing, calendars and booking, and automation into one account. What sets it apart is sub-accounts: each sub-account is a separate workspace for one business, so an agency can manage every client from one login and, on higher plans, rebill or resell the software.

Strengths

  • Agency economics. On Unlimited, adding a client does not raise your subscription, so the cost per client falls as you grow.
  • Tool consolidation. One platform can replace a separate CRM, funnel builder, email tool, SMS tool and booking app.
  • Resale options. The Founder plan's rebilling with markup lets agencies package the software as their own service.
  • No contact or user caps on any plan.

Drawbacks

  • Usage costs. Phone, SMS, email sending and some third-party services are billed on usage on top of the subscription, including during the trial. Budget for them.
  • Learning curve. The breadth of features means more setup time than a focused tool.
  • Starter is limited for agencies. Three sub-accounts suits a single business or a very small client roster.

Who should use GoHighLevel?

Choose GoHighLevel if you manage marketing for several businesses, or plan to, and want one system for all of them. If you are a solo creator selling a course or a single small business owner, you will likely get the features you need for less with Systeme.io or ClickFunnels.
